Challenges, Failures, and Successes

Peer Edits

For each of the four major assignments of this unit, I have posted two peer review edits: one peer edit of my work by a classmate, and one peer edit I made of a classmate's project. Click the links below to go to these peer edits:

Instructions for Peer Edits

(Source: http://www.readwritethink.org)

NOTE: Peer edits should first be conducted through your blogs. Writers should post their drafts in their blogs, and reviewers should post responses as comments to blog postings. Those postings should then be copied and pasted into the appropriate places in your Webfolio.

Peer Editing Review Guidelines

Review the Peer Edit with Perfection! tutorial.

REMEMBER
Three steps to peer editing:

    •Step 1: Compliments
    •Step 2: Suggestions
    •Step 3: Corrections

Start with compliments. Don't make anything up just to "be nice." You should be able to find something to compliment in a piece of writing. Some things to look for may include:

    •Word choice
    •Organization
    •Sentence structure
    •Opening and closing sentences

Then move on to the second step—suggestions:

  • Put-downs" are not allowed (You comment on the writing, NOT the writer).
  • Be specific when giving suggestions. (For example, "The second sentence in the third paragraph is confusing to me. Maybe you could break it up into two separate sentences.")

Lastly, make corrections by checking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
