After baccalaureate study at Madison College in Virginia, Dr. Evangeline Bollinger completed her masters and doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. In 1957 she began her career at Saint Xavier as an Assistant Professor of English. As a teacher and scholar she impressed both colleagues and students alike with her tireless and enthusiastic labors. Her diligent work in professional associations earned her the praise of faculty at other institutions and spread the reputation of her own in the best light possible. From 1967 to 1979 she served as Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs, in which role she continued to focus faculty attention on high standards of scholarship and on active pursuit of the goals of the college. After her tenure as Dean, she returned happily to her role as English professor, finding time to travel extensively even as she absorbed the latest approaches to literary study that swept in from Europe in the 1970s and '80s. She was even one of the first faculty members at the school to grasp the implications and possibilities of the computer in the classroom and the office. The Evangeline Bollinger Lecture Series
