Professor of English at Notre Dame University

"The `Mystic Chords of Memory':

Lincoln and Twain on Slavery's Sin and the

Hope for National Redemption"

Dr. Werge is also co-editor of the critical journal Religion and Literature. He has written on the American Puritans and on the influence of religious traditions and ideas on Melville, Twain, Doestoevsky, and other writers. A scholar who takes his teaching seriously, Dr. Werge has been awarded Notre Dame's highest teaching award in the past and is currently involved in a University program called the Alliance for Catholic Education.

 

Dr. Werge's thought provoking lecture was well received by an enthusiastic audience of graduate students, alums, faculty and friends. The entire evening was hailed as a success as evidenced by the smiling faces at the reception that followed.
