Near And Far: News From Our Alums
Mrs. B. Theoline (Zimmerli) Benn (BA `32 French and German) writes that when she retired in 1983, she was head of the Physically Handicapped Department at Peoria High School, Peoria, IL (orthopedic students from 11 counties were bused into her high school). She has lived in Arizona since 1990. Raising roses for 50 years and judging rose shows for the last 30 years has been her lifelong hobby.
Mrs. Georgeann (Ferguson) Abbant, Attorney at Law (BA `57 English Lit) writes that she is a principal partner in Abbanat & Marsan Assoc., in Woburn, MA. She retired from the State in 1992. In June, 1998 she received a Graduate Cetificate in Dispute Resolution from UMASS, Boston and is now enrolled in the Master's Program in Dispute Resolution, UMASS, Boston.
Mr. Robert Hovey (BA `84 English) is an Assistant States Attorney with the Cook County States Attorneys Office in Chicago, IL, prosecuting cases in the Gang Prosecutions Unit.
Ms. Susan Biszewski-Eber, M.A. (BA `88 English) currently works for the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County, Florida as a training consultant and grant coordinator for the B.E.S.T. Initiative (Building Exemplary Systems of Training). The grant is funded in part by the DeWitt Wallace - Reader's Digest Fund. The goal of the grant is to increase the level of professionalism among youth workers. Susan wrote the 90 hour curriculum for the program and articulated it with local colleges. She also teaches part time at St. Petersbury Junior College and Springfield College of Tampa. Winners of the 1993 Opus Award for Poetry, Susan and her husband Joe (who graduated from SXU Weekend College in `93) and their daughter Wren (who was baptized in the SXU Chapel in `93) do not miss the Midwest winters. But they think of their friends and teachers often as they explore places like Key West and contemplate its "order."
Ms. Judith Busse (BA `95) after a year and a half as Coordinator of Research at Chicago's Red Cross Chapter and a visit to Mary Testa's (MA `95) Brussels abode, with a short side trip to Paris, has taken a job (Manager, Development Research, Kalamazoo College, aka "K" College) in exotic Kalamazoo, MI. Mrs. Rachel Serbins Fitzgerald (BA `98) married Dan Fitzgerald this past June and is living in Oak Lawn, IL. She is now happily teaching at Braun Educational Center (junior high and high school students) in Oak Forest, IL. |
