They were in Nashville recording the Nashville Skyline (Video) album, 1969.
Cash was not your typically nationalistic country, rockabilly singer as his long-term association with Dylan would reveal. He was very socially conscious as seen in his epic, “Man in Black” song. For his efforts including one track, “Girl From the North Country,” on the Nashville Skyline album, he did win a Grammy for the album’s liner notes.
Duos with Dylan have always been challenging due to the uniqueness of the latter’s voice. Yet I think the Cash-Dylan duo is about the best I have heard. Better than Baez, Simon and others. Ok, the reason is they alternated verses and did not try to harmonise or share them together!!
