Only Three Democrats Vote to End Iraq War Immediately

Only three members of the House of Representatives voted “yes” on an immediate troop withdrawal resolution introduced on Friday, November 18, 2005, by warmonger House Armed Services Committee Chairperson Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) Yet Congressperson Hunter who voted against his own resolution and who lacks the capacity to look beyond imperialism at the suffering of war, should be commended, regardless of his motives, for introducing this resolution:

“It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.”

Those voting “yes” on the resolution were:

Democrats Jose E. Serrano (N.Y.) Hero and Pride of New York

Cynthia McKinney (Ga.) Hero and Great American and Consistent Opponent of War. This epic figure voted against the senseless Congressional 14 September 2001 authorisation to “use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks.” She is the Jeanette Rankin of the 21st Century.

Robert Wexler (Fla.) Hero and Distinction Brought to His Career

The Democrats are a war party which is cowardly and led by the ever calculating and ethically-challenged minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California. The resolution was introduced as an effort to gain political capital in the wake of Rep. John Murtha’s, Democrat of Pennsylavania, call for withdrawal of American combat forces from Iraq. Nevertheless, with even Mr Murtha voting against his own proposal that was substantially replicated in the G.O.P. sponsored resolution, we finally had a vote on ending this war crime.

Yet the point is this was a resolution to end the war and in this country only three out of four hundred and six voting members of the House voted for it. If the Democrats are merely going to calibrate their opposition to war based upon the current public opinion polls and their own political calculus, then the state of America will continue to worsen with the absence of ethical, courageous and moral leadership from the party that wants power but not an ethical alternative to the Republican party’s neo-conservative world view.
