I wonder if the New York Times Pulitzer Prize-quality article on domestic spying by the National Security Agency N.S.A. is a harbinger of the death of democracy in America.

The cynical use of the tragic September 11 attacks to:
Destroy the left in this country.
Silence professors who challenge the empire.
Arbitrarily arrest Americans and place them under detention without counsel or even an arraignment.
Intercept e-mail messages.
Intercept phone calls.
Intercept library records.
Get phony warrants from secret court, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, in D.C. as if that would preclude the abuse of power.

This is the Empire striking back: Here and hard as this violent, torturing, brutal, ruthless nation runs amok with its death penalties, napalm, cluster bombs, phosphorous weapons, Gulags in third countries where prisoners are killed in all likelihood and definitely tortured, without conscience, restraint or decency.

However, more related to the I.P. posted above, I welcome military personnel or related persons to my weblog. I only wish I could have more contact with persons of the military in terms of public airing of ideas. We need to communicate directly with each other.

Some of my most difficult but rewarding appearances have been before military audiences but it has been two years since my last one: A talk to the Korean War Veterans of Wilmette, Illinois. By the way, I waived my speaker’s fee and drove a good 65 miles to the venue.
