The Student Activities Board has invited peace activist Cindy Sheehan to speak about her son’s death and the organizations she started at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Shannon Center Main Arena. This will be Sheehan’s first appearance on a college campus and in Illinois. Sheehan won nationwide attention last year with an anti-war vigil outside President Bush’s Texas ranch after her son, Army Specialist Casey A. Sheehan, was killed in action in Iraq.
Only 500 tickets are available for this event, and the Student Activities Board is anticipating a rapid sell-out. Tickets are free for SXU students, faculty and staff and are available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the SXU Diner or by calling (773) 298-3138. Tickets for the public are $5 and are available by phone or by stopping in L-208.
Faculty are welcome to bring their classes. If you would like your class to attend, please contact the Student Activities Board by Monday, Feb. 13, so tickets can be reserved for you. SAB asks that you obtain tickets only for students who are able to attend since there is a limited supply of tickets.
