What is IATE?

IATE serves professional teachers of English throughout the state of Illinois through a variety of activities and publications. In addition to the annual fall conference, IATE members partake in local activities throughout the year and participate on standing committees that promote the interests of the IATE and its 1200 members.

Arranged by districts across the state, the IATE provides a lively network for the exchange of teaching tips, current research, and professional development – as well as enduring friendships.

Our Mission

The mission of the Illinois Association of Teachers of English is “to improve the quality of instruction in English at all educational levels; to encourage research, experimentation, and investigation in the teaching of English; to facilitate professional cooperation of the members; to hold public discussions and programs; to sponsor the publication of desirable articles and reports; and to integrate the efforts of all those who are concerned with the improvement of instruction in English.” (Adapted from the IATE Constitution)

Hi, I like the new site very much. I like the scrolling and movement on the right side. It looks clean and uncluttered. Laura Monczunski did excellent work.

  2. Looks great. I really like the option to register and pay online.

My mother, Rebecca Caudill Ayars, is represented today by Sterling Lord Literistic. The Literistic needs some of her books to market them to on-line publishers etc. Some of her books I only have one copy of so I am looking for some place that might have extra copies of some of her books: Barrie and Daughter. Saturday Cousins, Susan Cornish, Higgins and the Great Big Scare, A Pocketful of Cricket, and Somebody Go and Bang a Drum.

Please let me know if anyone has extras of any of these books. Thank you. Rebecca Ayars Baker
