Pantheon Project Instructions

For this project, your group will give a short presentation on two (2) of the twelve Olympian gods/goddesses that make up the Greek Pantheon, as well as create and present your own god/goddess.  Each group will be assigned the two Olympian gods they will present to the class. From the two assigned gods/goddesses, you will choose the "powers" from one  and create a new god/goddess.

Step 1
Every student should read The Pantheon: An Introduction to the Greek Gods which can be found by clicking the following link. http://www.theoi.com/Pantheon.htm

Step 2
See Mrs. Medrano to get your assigned Olympian gods that you will research and present to the class. These will be assigned randomly. She is not taking requests.  :)

Presentation of Pantheon gods/goddesses must include the following:

Name of Assigned God/Goddess:

God/Goddess of ?:

Picture:

Family:

Summary of popular myths about god/goddess:

Step 3
After researching and gathering information on both of your assigned gods/goddesses, you will choose the "powers" from one of the two to create and name your own god/goddess.

Example:

Assigned gods:  Hestia—Home, Hearth, Family
Haides—the Underworld, Death

Your created god/goddess can either have power over home, hearth and family or the underworld and death.  You must have a picture of your god/goddess, the powers of your god/goddess, the name of your god/goddess, and a short explanation or description of your god/goddess.  You can use a picture of a famous person as your god/goddess, but you must change the name.

Example:

Name of Created Goddess:

Marta

God/Goddess of Home, Hearth, Family

Picture:

Family:

Marta is the ultimate picture of the perfect homemaker. Her house is decorated perfectly, her family is dressed in the latest fashions, her manners are impeccable, and if you are lucky enough to be a guest at her dinner table, you'd think you had died and gone to Mount Olympus.

Summary of popular myths about god/goddess:

Although Marta is goddess of home, hearth, and family, like many other gods and goddesses, she does have her dark side. If Marta is having a bad hair day, you certainly do not want to be anywhere near her. If  she is angry with you, there are definite signs: the amount of burned dinners, clothes will be ripped and torn, socks will mysteriously disappear in your dryer, embarrasing social blunders will become the norm, your children will hate you, and your spouse will have to work late all the time. If you are one of the unfortunate mortals that are already on her bad side, forget about the olive branch offerings...this one wants your money.

BE CREATIVE !   HAVE FUN!

Step 4
Each group will present their Pantheon gods/goddesses and their created god/goddess to the class. Everyone from each group will  speak/present. If there are only two people in your group, one person must speak twice.  This should be a short presentation, but long enough to share the required information with the class.  All the presentations will be given on the same day.

Step 5
After you have given your presentation, you must post your three gods/goddesses information sheets on this page (in the boxes at the top of the page), and you must hand in print-outs of your sheets. If you have a color printer at home, I suggest you print it out at home. Black and white copies are fine. All the webpages of the created gods/goddesses will be put together to create the Team-up Pantheon.
