We, the Honors class of 2003, have created a website
dedicated to communicating our feelings and experiences associated with Saint
Xavier University's Undergraduate Honors Program in the hopes that
others may benefit from these experiences and perhaps even join us.
We also hope that we ourselves may appreciate the academic and
social benefits of being involved in such a program. With our
thirst for knowledge and the "Idea of America" as our theme, we seek the
answers to many significant questions that will inevitably lead
to academic enrichment and self-discovery. In pursuing the "Idea
of America" we are essentially questioning our own identity, both
as individuals and as a group.
As the inaugural group of Saint Xavier University honors students,
we set the precedent for subsequent Honors groups. Despite this
pressure, we have united and bonded to form a family. Recognizing
each participant's and faculty member's individuality, we have
come together to form a concrete unit of solidarity, concerned
with "the good of the order." Students have formed unbreakable alliances
with one another, as well as with Honors faculty, supporting
each other through the trials and tribulations of college life. Together,
we have and shall continue to travel the bumpy road seeking the "Idea of
America."
"...there is an idea of America that is itself distinct, incorporating
oneness and manyness in a 'new order' that may or may
not be 'for the ages' but that is for us, here and now."
