Duquesne University Adjunct’s Death and Anti-Union Busting “Religious Exemption”

Duquesne University, Manhattan College and St Xavier University are three Roman Catholic Universities that hide behind a “religious exemption” in resisting adjunct labour’s right to organise and negotiate a contract. It is an unusual application of Catholic Social Teaching and would seem to contravene basic principles of justice, ethics and fairness. It is hoped that the newly reconstituted National Labor Relations Board will rule that regional director decisions to encompass adjunct unions under their jurisdiction will stand and adjuncts have the right to organise on university campuses that are private regardless of alleged religiosity and affiliation.

This is the link to the article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that should energise resistance to such abuse on the part of university administrations.
